Trump & Carney spoke before the UN yesterday

Post by Rideback »

"Mark Carney and Donald Trump made speeches at about the same time today:
Carney: We meet at a time of profound change. The post-war order is crumbling. Great powers are weaponizing trade, energy, and finance. Middle powers like Canada cannot afford to be passive. We must rise to defend our sovereignty and values. When rules fail, strength matters.
Trump: We used to have, when I was growing up we had in my area in Queens, there was a place. Did anybody know that? I said mom, why are those bars on the building? We used to play little league baseball. Quite the baseball player. I said to my mother, mom, she would be there, always there for me. She said, you could be a professional baseball player. I said thanks, mom.
Carney: We can't afford not to take Trump seriously. His threats of tariffs and economic coercion are real. They risk destabilizing global trade and alliances. Canada will diversify our partnerships, invest in defense, and build resilience against such pressures. We will protect ourselves from great-power coercion.
Trump: I said why are those bars on the windows? Big building. Big powerful building. It loomed over the park actually. She said well, people that are very secure in that building. I said boy, I used to always look at that building. I would see big building, tall building and it loomed over the park. Now that I think it was pretty unfriendly sight. I'll never forget.
Carney: Drawing from Vaclav Havel's 'the power of the powerless,' we must recognize that in times of chaos, shared sovereignty among allies is our greatest asset. Canada is committing to new multilateral initiatives, including green energy pacts and trade diversification away from vulnerable dependencies. Middle powers must rise to shape the future.
Trump: I don't know if it's still there. Because they got rid of most of them. The Democrats in New York, they took them down and the people live on the streets now. That's why I have a lot of the people in California and other places, they live on the streets. They took the mental institutions down. They are expensive.
Carney: The weaponization of economics by leaders like Trump demands a bold response. Canada will lead in attracting investment to North America, including strategic resources like Greenland's minerals, to counter instability. We will defend our values and build strength where others sow division.
Trump: But I would say why does that building have those bars? It wasn't normal. You used to look at like a window but this way you look at all the steel, vicious steel, tiny windows, bars all over the place. Nobody was getting out.
Carney: In conclusion, let's build a new order based on cooperation, not coercion. Canada stands ready to partner with those who share our vision. Thank you."
Seen on Twitter and it's perfect.
